The Reading Center
Located in Miami-Dade's West Kendall area, The Reading Center provides a great learning environment for local children and families. The Reading Center features the following:
High-Tech Computer Lab
An 11-station computer center that provides students with access to several learning programs and educational websites. Children and family members learning English as a second language can also enjoy the special voice-recognition program available at every computer station. The program is designed to strengthen the four principal skills of learning a new language; reading, listening, writing and pronunciation. In addition, the program provides a tutorial for immigrants whom are interested in learning about all aspects of the U.S including history, demographics, culture and way of life. The Reading Center is also equipped with BrainChild technology. Similar to a hand held video game device, the BrainChild device uses fun educational games that reinforce academic skills for children and adult ESOL students. By simply swapping out one game cartridge for another, listening with the built-in stereo speakers or headset and watching an educational video on the BrainChild's full color screen, the learning experience can continue indefinitely and become fun. Read2Succeed provides access to a variety of educational game cartridges in academic disciplines, all FCAT levels and all ESOL levels. The BrainChild technology is available for all students registered in our programs.
The Center also comes equipped with a 10,000 plus volume mini-library for ages K-8th grade. With hundreds of popularly titled books, including reference books in virtually every subject, students have all the resources needed to complete any academic assignment or to simply indulge in a great book that expands their mind. Our mini-library also includes a collection of books that highlight themes and topics in the areas of social responsibility, character building skills and introduces children to international cultures, ethnic groups and world history.
Within the library we also have an incentive section that consists of a variety of popular books that students are welcome to take home to share with their parents and family. All books and educational enrichment resources are available to children and families registered in all of our programs.
